Men’s March Madness Breakdown

Maggy Steingraber

March Madness is one of the most exhilarating times of the year. Many fans make brackets while some are just there to watch.

One of the biggest recap moments in the men’s tournament would have to be the three-point buzzer-beater from Gonzaga. Julian Strawther hit this shot in the last seconds to knock UCLA out of the tournament. With the ups also come the downs, which would include big names losing in the Sweet 16 like Alabama and Kansas, or even losing early on like Arizona or Purdue.

I talked to a few students and asked them who they had going all the way in March Madness. Answers varied, and there wasn’t a strong favorite. The most popular answers were Gonzaga, UConn, and Arizona.

The final four teams were SDSU (San Diego State University), FAU (Florida Atlantic University), Miami, and UConn. SDSU, FAU, and Miami.

Miami played in the Final Four for the first time in its program’s history.

The UConn Huskies won their first four games in the Big Dance by at least 15 or more points and became the third team this century to accomplish such a large step within their basketball program. Between UConn’s 88-65 win over Arkansas and another huge win over Gonzaga, UConn is the first team to win its Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games by 20 or more points since Kentucky in 1996.

FAU will be ending their season with more wins than any other team nationally, after beating Memphis, Fairleigh Dickinson, Tennessee, and Kansas State over the tournament’s first two weeks.

Lastly, the University of Miami Hurricanes have elite guards and Norchad Omier who is a very profound player that seems to have  endless rebounding skills. He’s among the group of four Miami players averaging 13 or more points per game.
