On September 14th, 2025, Gilmore Girls stars Lauren Graham (who played Lorelai Gilmore) and Alexis Bledel (who played Rory Gilmore ) made an appearance for the 2025 Emmys to present the nominees in the category: Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series. The rare appearance of the stars together was a highlight of the Emmys to the audience, and got fans excited, but why do people still care about this series 17 years later? The fan favorite show, Gilmore girls (written by Amy Sherman- Palladino) is a coming-of-age comedy following a single mother, Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory Gilmore. Throughout the show the audience watches these characters experience important milestones such as school dances, graduations, promotions, etc.
The show is also known for its witty pop culture-filled references from all kinds of media, Mostly said by Lorelai (played by Lauren Graham). Gilmore girls takes place in a fictional charming small town named Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The show is also famous for its seasonal setting, and many fans watch it to get into the fall spirit. One of those fans, Luna Beardsley Lewis (‘26), stated that the show “feels so autumn” and that she likes the outfits the characters wear. I interviewed a couple of people to see what they thought. Mr. Reed, a teacher at Lincoln, had many thoughts on the overall series. “ I like the pacing, I like that its quick, I like that it doesn’t treat you like you’re stupid.” he said.
Reed also pointed out that the show can be watched from any time in your life. No matter what age you are you can find something relatable happing in the show. A fan of the show can relate to Rory in their teenager years, and then years later relate to Lorelai as she moves up in their career and motherhood.
However, Reed also had some controversial opinions on the toxicity of the iconic mother-daughter duo. He stating that Rory acts like the mother because of Lorelai’s childishness, and as a result both characters can come off as slightly entitled. Even so, he continues to watch the series and enjoy the series. It’s clear that Gilmore Girls has had an influential impact on its fans, earning a special place their hearts. 17 years after it originally aired, the show is still popular today. It’s no wonder that the image of former co- stars reconnecting at the Emmys brought fans such joy, as it brought back a taste of the show’s seasonal nostalgia.
