Lincoln Club Spotlight #1
November 17, 2022
Hello, there readers, my name is Myles Lancaster, and this is the Lincoln Club Spotlight! This article is all about putting the spotlight on the various clubs at our school that focus on different topics, whether it be art or sports, or something else. Each issue will focus on a different club, so you can get a feel for which club could potentially become part of your life in Lincoln! If you are part of a club and are interested in having your club featured in The Lincoln Log, contact me at [email protected]. Now let’s go ahead and see what club we’re talking about today.
This week, we’re looking at Lincoln’s Poetry Club. I recently interviewed the club leaders Selah Burrowes and Quinn Haven and asked them some questions regarding Poetry Club. Here’s what was asked and how they responded below:
Q: Can you tell us what your club is all about?
Selah responded to this question with the following: The main idea for our club is for students to be able to express themselves in a literary format, as well as the way that we explore poetry and ourselves and the impact it has, this could be in the form of a big thing or an everyday thing for anyone. Along the way, we’re building bonds of kinship, which makes the experience that much greater!
Q: What has your club done in the past?
Both Selah and Quinn had some input on this question: Well, our club is still a relatively new club, as it existed when the school first opened back up, then got shut down by Covid. The next year it was back on its feet and was run by three seniors, but at the end of the year, they graduated and left obviously. Some stuff we’ve done in the past includes poetry, of course, but also, we did a little project called ‘An Ode to Lincoln’, which was fun to work on!
Q: What is something your club is working on right now?
Quinn responded with this: Right now, we’re planning on becoming a student organization for fundraisers for the school, and we’re also looking into the possibility of going to a Poetry Slam in Seattle at some point.
Q: How much work have you done in the club so far this year?
They both shared similar responses: So far, we’ve done a lot of brainstorming and collaboration and especially advertising to let more people know about the club so they can join. No experience needed; you only need to be available at lunch. Even if you aren’t confident about poetry, feel free to join, we want everyone in the club to be able to enjoy themselves and grow an appreciation for poetry as well.
That does it for this interview! Poetry Club is a great place to express yourself in a form that may seem simple but can hold a lot of power! If any of you are interested in joining this club in Lincoln, contact Selah through outlook. Club meetings take place every Tuesday, during lunch in Room 362 on the third floor. Poetry Club hopes to see you there!
