Coffee Around Wallingford

Josie Shapiro and Delphine Lach

Are you interested in a new coffee place to go to before, after or during school? Well luckily we are located in Wallingford, a coffee hub…  We reviewed seven Wallingford coffee shops so you know which ones to go to.

TNT Taqueria:

Service: 8/10

Coffee: ★★★★★★★★★☆

Atmosphere: 9/10

Price for medium drip coffee: $1.50

Address: 2114 N 45th St, Seattle, WA 98103

TNT Taqueria was one of our favorite places around Wallingford to get coffee. Their prices were great – it was $1.50 for any size drip coffee with creamer and sweetener. The outdoor ordering area is colorful and a nice place to sit. They also offer indoor seating, but this might not be the best place if you are looking to study.

TNT opened in 2012 and has been popular ever since. The coffee is strong and good quality. They offer a unique horchata latte and also have a wide variety of great Mexican food. A notable food item they have that could go with a morning coffee is their breakfast burritos.

Zoka Coffee:

Service: 8/10

Coffee:★★★★★★★★★★

Atmosphere: 10/10

Price of a medium latte is $5.20

Address: 2200 N 56th St #6204, Seattle, WA 98103

Zoka Coffee is a great place to go if you need to get some work done. The coffee was a 10/10 and their large variety of drinks do not disappoint.

The price of a medium latte is $5.20 but well worth the rich deep flavor. The service is very good and they always have good music playing.

Zoka Coffee Opened in 1997 and has been booming ever since. It is a locally owned business with locations in Kirkland and South Lake Union.

Zoka is not only a coffee shop, they also offer many food options and ground or whole bean coffee. Zoka selects coffee from Columbia and Ethiopia to “ensure the best taste possible.”

Eltana:

Service: 10/10

Coffee:★★★★★★★★★☆

Atmosphere: 6/10

Price of a medium latte: $5

Address: 3920 Stone Way N, Seattle, WA 98103

Eltana was one of our favorite places near Lincoln to get coffee. The coffee is strong and flavorful and their drinks are consistently good. The service is always great but we would not say Eltana is a good place to get work done because it is very loud.

Eltana opened in 2011. They have two open locations, one in Wallingford and one in Capitol Hill. They have many drinks such as the Turmeric latte, Gishir latte and the Tel Aviv latte that cannot be found in many other coffee shops in Seattle.

Eltana is most famously known for their huge bagel selection and variety of delicious lunch meals.

Chocolati:

Service: 6/10

Coffee:★★★★★★★★★☆

Atmosphere: 10/10

Price of a medium latte: $5.12

Address: 1716 N 45th St, Seattle, WA 98103

Chocolati is a really cozy shop and a great place to be productive. The coffee is good quality and there is an interesting variety of flavors, including their Darth Vader latte (a raspberry mocha). The one downside is that the coffee takes a while to be made because they usually only have one person working.

Chocolati was established in 2003 and has 5 different locations: Greenwood, the downtown library,  Greenlake, Wallingford and Factory Outlet. Chocolati was originally a chocolate shop so you can indulge in the beautiful handcrafted truffles or other variety of chocolate goodies. The coffee is made from blends that originate from Brazil, Columbia, Guatemala, and around the world.

Starbucks Coffee:

Service: 7/10

Coffee:★★★★★★★☆☆☆

Atmosphere: 5/10

Price of a medium latte: $5.25

Address: 4500 Wallingford Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103

Starbucks is a classic place to get coffee. They have a large range of flavoring and sweeteners, but were out of drip coffee when we went.

The coffee is very sweet and not that strong, but their service and drinks are very consistent throughout all their stores. The environment is not that good, as there are a lot of people and a loud grocery store below.

Starbucks opened its first store in 1971 in Pike Place Market. It is famously associated with Seattle and one of the most successful coffee chains in the world. Starbucks sources their coffee beans from all over Latin America, Asia, and Africa.

Diva Espresso:

Service: 6/10

Coffee:★★★★★★☆☆☆☆

Atmosphere: 7/10

Price of a medium latte: $5.84

Address: 4615 Stone Way N, Seattle, WA 98103

Diva Espresso was one of the mediocre coffee places around Wallingford that we tested. The coffee is okay (6/10) and the prices are a little high for what you get. That being said, the store has great breakfast, lunch, and snack options as well as a lot of diverse flavors and seasonal drinks.

The layout is small and sometimes waiting in line can make the store feel crowded. It is a good place to study when there aren’t many people, but the seating is usually full.

Diva was started in 1992, and currently have about 7 stores open around Seattle. They pride themselves on high quality coffee and good relationships between coffee growers and the café. They founded their own company called Highlands Coffee Co. where bagged coffee can be purchased from.

Fuel Coffee:

Service: 8/10

Coffee:★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Atmosphere: 9/10

Price of a medium latte: $6.84

Address: 1705 N 45th St, Seattle, WA 98103

Our experience at Fuel was good in terms of the coffee shop’s environment and the service, but we do not recommend coming here. The coffee is very expensive, a medium latte being almost $7, and in our opinion, the quality of coffee is pretty low – it had a bit of a burnt flavor. The shop is quiet and a good place to be productive but not worth it if you just want a drink.

Established in 2005, Fuel has 3 locations across Seattle. The Wallingford location used to be only open as a walk up stand, but recently they opened their whole store for seating.

Fuel sells books, shirts, and mugs as well as pastries. Some of the special drinks they offer are the Kyotobot Iced Coffee and the Sweet Cream Iced Coffee.
