I hope you all had some good new year’s resolutions and a fresh start back at school with a fresh new sense of style! Today we will be jumping right back into the fashion world of Lincoln High School and looking at the outfits of some of our most fashionable students. You’ll be seeing some new people and a couple of familiar faces other students have nominated to be included in this page. Although many people aspire to have good style, it can be difficult to find inspiration and build your dream wardrobe. Let’s look into how these students are able to curate their own looks from influencers, Pinterest, or just people they know, while personalizing them and giving them their own twist!

Aspen Brubaker, they/them

Aspen: “Something that I look at the most when I see clothing that I’m inspired by is the fit and cut of it. I like to take my own clothing to mimic that fit/cut that I like, then I just make sure that the colors of my clothing go together and then accessorize. That’s usually my process!”

Audrey: “When I look at the photos I’ve collected through the internet, I pick my favorite parts of a few different outfits and I pull them together to create an outfit of my own. Once I find something that I like, I really stick with it. For example, I’m a big fan of the “tiny shirt, big pants” formula so it’s most of what I wear, with variations of what specific pieces. Accessories are also obviously a key aspect of any outfit; once I find earrings, or a stack of necklaces that I really like, I also tend to really stick with them with little variations for every outfit!”

Bella: “I learn to go by a certain color scheme or keep the same style of clothes to the inspiration I find, but I try to make it unique to me by accessorizing etc.”

Grace, they/she

Grace: “The little bits and details make my style my own. I value comfort and function in a lot of my clothing which is why the 90s and music subcultures are some of my biggest inspirations; but specific details, like silver jewelry, my moms old necklaces, and my makeup kind of make it *me*.”

Mia K-R, she/her

Mia: “I’ve always had my own sense of style, which is why it was hard to come up with inspirations. I am often drawn to bright colors and funky shapes and I like to experiment with new styles as well. Sometimes I will take inspiration from tv shows or artists I like, but I like to be unique to myself and create a fashion sense of my own, not based on a popular style. That is always my goal in fashion: not to dress to impress but to dress for myself!”

Phoebe: “I think that what inspires me the most is seeing people I’m inspired by wearing crazy combinations of clothing and accessories because it gives me the confidence to mess around with my clothes like them!”

Mia: “I enjoy dressing in a lot of different styles but I think the main things I’ve been taking inspiration from recently have been Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Walking Dead. I like to dress like I’m about to go out and kill zombies but I’m gonna look good doing it. Also a lot of jewelry is fun; I like to match little details in my outfit to make it all cohesive and interesting!”

Helen: “I usually search for clothes online or in person of colors/textures that line up with what I’m inspired by so I don’t get too focused on finding something specific and being sad when I can’t get the exact thing.”

Sarah Addams, she/her

Sarah: “I pull a lot of my inspiration from vintage fashion I really like to mix and match things from different eras.”

Sophia Bazel, she/her

Sophia: “When I go shopping, I just see things that I like and get them! I notice that the outfits I see on TikTok, Instagram, or Pinterest influence the clothing and style that I think is pretty. Personally, I see a lot of Black women who I think are gorgeous and I try to use them as inspo for myself. I don’t want to imitate the people, I see and use them to inspire what I wear!”

Anna Yang, she/her (left)
Lylia Polteno, she/her (middle)
Sasha Hasenstab, she/her (right)

Anna: “I love styles like yami kawaii, jirai kei, and agejo, but I don’t really buy clothes that fit into any of those categories. I do loosely shop based off of the vibes they give though, like I guess cutesy and girly; and lots of skirts. I tend to get stuff like this in greyscale so I can easily make an outfit. I also love getting sets because it gives the option to either mix or match!”

Lylia: “For me, ballet core and comfy girl core has really helped me find outfits I like so I wear them a lot! I think when it comes to the actual aesthetic I chose to base my whole closet off, it’s more of a baseline then the whole thing because I like to put my edge on the outfits I make; so I guess it would then be called Lylia core but with other baseline aesthetics.”

Sasha: “I love streetwear and grunge/alternative so I usually switch between them, but subversive is my favorite so I like to think of a good way to mix everything! All black outfits are my favorite, I took some inspo from Y2K style and got called a goth bimbo too. I love so many different styles, making my own clothing, and experimenting with layering new pieces.”

Valentine Wells, they/he

Valentine: “I gather images in my mind from my inspiration and I look at the closest thing I own in my closet, and how I can make that item look good. I pay attention to silhouettes and colors mostly. I also have sensory issues so I have to keep some materials out of my closet. When I go thrifting I might have a list of general items and colors I’m looking for; I’m also always on the lookout for pieces that catch my eye in public, and on Pinterest.”

Zoe Kanter, she/her

Zoe: “More than anything, seeing others being creative with their clothes inspires me to do creative things myself and wear outfits that I think look cool or fun instead of trying to blend in. But in terms of specific things, layering! I’m genuinely so bad at figuring out what to layer so it really helps to see other’s ideas and how they combine pieces.”

Nico, she/her

Nico: “It’s taken quite a while to even be able to translate my inspiration into outfits that I think are personally flattering, so it’s definitely a process. I usually start by looking at the shape and fit of the clothing or outfit and trying to match the silhouette. From the shapes I’m inspired by, I can find individual pieces that fit into that and are appealing to my lifestyle, music taste, and personality!”

Simon Reep, he/him

Simon: “My main inspirations are from old 80s movies and current street fashion, so I love thinking about what types of outfits I could make through watching those movies or looking online.”

Who runs the fashion page?

Ruby Eister-Hargrave, she/her

Ruby: “Not only silhouettes and color schemes, but each outfit can contribute to how people view me. Making Pinterest and vision boards help me visualize how I want to be seen.”

Isa McMillan, she/her

Isa: “I really enjoy trying different styles based off of how I am feeling at the moment. I take inspiration from artists or people I find online, and I especially love using Pinterest.”
