On October 28th, Lincoln High School’s Math Club took part in the Math is Cool Championship at Liberty High School. Lincoln had two teams of mathletes participating in the event, competing against 28 teams from 11 other schools. Together, the Lincoln mathletes placed 1st overall for the team category.
These Lincoln teams participated in multiple events, where the highest scores from the teams were summed up, and Lincoln ended with 177 points, 50 points higher than the 2nd place team. Four Lincoln students won individual awards, which meant they took home the top 4 awards of the night.
When asked about his thoughts on the competition, Lincoln’s 3rd place winner, Daniel Li, 9, said, “Our team just did absolutely awesome, [we] absolutely rocked it… and every single person there, I could tell they really put in their all. […] That’s the reason I’m here. […] It’s just the teamwork, the bonding, the experience, the hard work, it all pays off. And it’s just so rewarding as an experience.”
To follow up this achievement, Math Club is planning to compete in upcoming competitions such as the Math is Cool Masters in December and the AMC 10s and AMC 12s.
