In November, the Lincoln Girl’s Soccer Team concluded their best season since the reopening of the school.
On November 18th, the team played in the Third-Place match for State, where junior Mia Van More scored a goal in the first five minutes. Unfortunately, Lakeside was able to slot in two goals, defeating Lincoln in a close game and concluding their season. A little more than 2 weeks prior, Lincoln came close to clinching 1st place in Metros, falling to Seattle Prep in a penalty shootout.
Lincoln placed 2nd in the Metro League Girls Soccer standings this season, with a record of 9-2-2. Then they fought their way through the Metro tournament and secured second place in the Metro finals. This gave the team a chance at State, where they ended up placing 4th in Washington for 3A.
Mia, one of the captains of the team, was awarded Division Co-MVP, as she was a persistent force in the attack, with 31 goals in 21 games. She mentioned that what she’s most proud of this season is, “How far we made it both in the metro and state tournament and how close the team got over the season.”
There were many amazing moments this season, but Mia’s favorite memory was beating Lakeside in the Metro Semifinals, which punched them a ticket to the Metro Tournament Finals.
To put that in perspective, the team placed 8th in state the year prior. The soccer team also experienced a lot of individual success as well: 4 girls won recognition for the 1st team all-division for the Sound Division; 5 girls received 2nd team all-division; 3 girls received honorable mentions.
This is only the beginning for the Girl’s soccer program. Mia explains how the Varsity team has lots of returning players for next season, and a strong young core in the JV program, so she hopes that in the future the Girl’s Soccer program will be very successful. It is safe to say that we can expect a bright future for this program in the succeeding years.
