After a historic spring 2023 baseball season led by head coach Ray Atkinson and star pitcher Bjorn Johnson, can the Lynx defend their state championship win?
Last season, the Lincoln Lynx Baseball Team went 19-2 and finished 2nd in the Metro 3A division. This is a huge accomplishment for any school baseball team, and senior pitcher Owen Rolling said, “It’s gonna be tough to do it again, but with the culture and talent on this team we can do it.”
Heading into the 2024 season with 8 varsity seniors having graduated last summer, the newer varsity squad has big shoes to fill
New additions to the 2024 varsity roster include sophomore Atticus Stanfield who last year was called up to varsity. The team is expecting big things from him this year as a pitcher/outfielder
On past success and what is to come of this season, Stanfield said, “We lost a lot of guys. People are going to assume we won’t be as good this year but we are going to still perform and surprise a lot of people.”
Coach Ray “Raybo” Atkinson is a big part of the teams culture and success. With lots of experience under his belt, including 2 state championship titles, Atkinson is ready for another great season with well-planned strategies and an influx of player development. About Atkinson, senior Lucas Coma said, “Coach Raybo is a major part of our success. His coaching philosophy is not just about creating great athletes but great kids on and off the field. He brings enthusiasm to the field and that makes us all want to strive to be better.”
The team and the school have high hopes that this upcoming season lives up to the success of the last. With upcoming and returning players, the lynx prepare for more wins on the baseball field.
