Hannah Lee (12) and Abby Lee (10) are sisters on the Lincoln girls varsity soccer team. Being siblings, their dynamic is a little different than that of your average teammates.
The sister’s journey in soccer began when they were very young. Hannah says, “Our parents forced us to start.” According to the Lees their parents enrolled them in Soccer training sessions at the ripe age of 3.
Hannah has fond memories of playing soccer in the backyard with her sister when they were little. The two have grown up supporting each other and cheering at one another’s games. Abby says, “we’ve come a long way together.”
Abby plays left and right wing, while Hannah plays outside back, but that doesn’t stop their fellow teammates from confusing them. Since their positions are so different, teammates do a good job of knowing who is who during games, but during practice that’s not always the case.
Abby says she is constantly called Hannah when people see her from afar. She says, “It can be annoying, but it doesn’t bother me too much.”
Hannah says she plays differently when she has to face off Abby in practice. She doesn’t like to play aggressive because she is, “afraid to hurt Abby.” Abby says she plays less aggressive as well, but her reasoning is, “I don’t want Hannah to get mad at me.”
Despite the struggles, when asked if the girls prefer playing on a team with or without each other, they both agreed it’s more fun to play together. They get to spend more time bonding, and according to Abby, she enjoys her older sisters company and getting to, “talk about what’s going down,” because they don’t spend a ton of time doing that outside of soccer.
Abby and Hannah are still growing both as people and as players, and are excited to see where their talent and friendship takes them.
