As the weather turns chilly and the leaves turn orange, it’s the perfect time to get cozy and relax with friends and family. I interviewed a few Lincoln students to find out their favorite movies and TV shows that get them into the autumn spirit.
Gabriela West (9) started watching Gossip Girl a few days before school started. She says that it made her more excited to go back because of how the show portrayed school as fun and interesting. When asked what it’s about, West described it as “Upper east side teenagers and their lives in New York City, with school and all the drama that’s involved.”
Elias Beard (11) recommended Ted Lasso, a comedy show that’s perfect for sports lovers. “It’s pretty funny,” he said, “It’s about an American football coach who goes to Europe to coach a professional soccer team, not knowing anything about the sport.” The themes of teamwork and perseverance connect to getting back into the rhythm of school, athletics, and other activities, while the show’s lightheartedness makes it a good comfort watch for fall.
Aria Sanya (12) and Evy Gedlinske (12) are both avid movie enjoyers. Gedlinske is an AMC A-list member, and Sanya is an AMC Premier member. After discussing their favorite fall films, they decided on two: Juno and Muppets Most Wanted.
In reference to Juno, Gedlinske called it “Very cozy but also a little sad and strange.” “Juno’s set in the fall, it’s on Letterboxd’s fall list. It’s a super relatable teen movie,” Sanya chimed in. “Well, it technically takes place year-round, but it feels very autumnal,” commented Gedlinske.
“I will also recommend Muppets Most Wanted. It’s always a good choice,” Gedlinske continued. “Everyone sleeps on it, and nobody gets it.” Both own the DVD, and Evy rewatches it every year. “Watching it will change you!” they chanted together before bursting into a chorus of the song “Together Again” by the Muppets. After, Evy added, “That meme of Kermit with the hood is from that movie, so you should watch it.”
