While Lincoln football has managed to pull off multiple wins this season, the road to success hasn’t been easy. The team has had to overcome adversities, but together they prevailed, and have secured far more wins than last season! Here is what some of the team captains have to say about the rocky road to triumph.
The team dynamic this year is much more united, and stronger than last year. Matteus Alin (11) says, “Now that we’ve been winning, everyone is a lot more locked in.” Avery Jones (11) agrees, and states, “We are hungry for the win, we all just want to win.” Winning isn’t the only difference between this season and last. JJ Starnes (12) believes the team is, “more put together and polished.”
Alin believes the team as a whole has, “gotten a lot better through the off-season, and got a lot stronger, overall just performing better.” Ben Mekuria (12) says a big difference from last year is that, “people know what to do now.” Jones considers this year’s players to be, “better than last year.” He also believes last year the team didn’t have very good coaching staff, which lead the team to an unsuccessful season.
The captains overall agree that this year’s coaching staff and new head coach have brought very valuable things to the program that were not present last year. “We have established, good coaches, who have a good plan,” states Jones.
Speaking on the new head coach, Coach Slater , Jones says, “He hypes us up, and our old coach was strict and mean, but [Slater] makes us feel better.” Alin agrees that this team is more hype, and adds that Coach Slater “brings intensity, everyone is more intense!”
Starnes and Mekuria believe Slater has united the team with Mekuria saying, “He’s brought brotherhood.” Adding on Jones states, “He knows us as people.”
Last year the Lynx had a rough season, going 0 and 12. They fought through last year, put in the work over the off-season, and are ending the normal season with a record of 4 and 4. The student body has faith it will only get better. Get hyped, Lincoln students, the rest of the season is ahead, and more wins are on the way!
