Featuring Roblox inspired games, the fight song accompanied by the band, and multiple performances, the first assembly of the 24-25 school year was a big success.
Assemblies are a good measure of how spirited the school is each year, and the level of engagement from students can be what determines how good an assembly is. It’s not a stretch to say that this assembly went extremely well, with everyone showing out to support.
This checks out, as overall Lincoln has had a lot of spirit this year already, with tons of people dressing up for spirit weeks and turning up at sport events to cheer on their peers. This spirited atmosphere has made school a more fun place, and we can only hope students will keep the energy up throughout the year.
Many students have noted that spirit seems to increase every year. “I definitely feel like school spirit is so much higher than it was in my freshman year,” stated senior Jillian Zaske.
The assembly featured entertaining performances from both the dance team and the cheer squad which were a hit with students. Frances Marriott (11) mentioned that, “watching cheer gets better every year [and] it’s really fun to see them try new tricks.”
ASB and Spirit Committee did a great job organizing a program with many engaging activities. The finish-the-lyrics song game was a hit, and students were happy to find that the songs were great sing-along picks.
The freshman got a chance to properly learn the Lincoln Fight Song, as members of ASB handed out lyrics upon entering the gym. After practicing the song a few times, the whole school sang it together with the band. Definitely an improvement from last year, where the call-and-response method of teaching the fight song ended up being all call, no response.
An assembly is only as good as their ridiculous games, and this time around they were especially entertaining. A relay race featured all the sports captains throwing themselves on mats in an attempt to get across the gym fastest. It was very entertaining, with a level of physical comedy that would be hard to beat.
Next, we saw a game with 4 teacher volunteers, based on the Roblox game Dress-To-Impress. Each teacher had a team of students who had to rush to style them with odd clothing items, before each teacher gave us their best model walk. When a teacher walked, their respective house cheered them on, and the person with the loudest cheers was named the champion. This definitely encouraged some fun walks as the teachers did some crowd work.
Dr. V (and triangle house) ultimately won, but it was definitely a close competition. “Mr. Kastl was snubbed,” claimed Noelle Yau (12), declaring “the fairy wings ate.”
This is not the only anti-triangle house sentiment that has been raised by students. There have been many whispers of the assembly being rigged.
One theory is that when measuring the volume of cheers to determine a winner, MC’s didn’t hold the phone as close to the stands for other houses. It’s hard to tell whether people want to believe triangle house doesn’t truly deserve the win because they are sore losers, or if it’s a legitimate concern.
Regardless of the controversial results, overall this assembly went extremely well. “I think this is the best homecoming assembly we’ve ever had,” said Ms. Campbell, expressing a sentiment that we heard from nearly every student that we interviewed.
The result of the assembly is promising for the rest of the year, so if you missed it, make sure not to skip the next one! Keep up the spirit Lynx!
