Lincoln High School has an extraordinary Flag football program. The Lynx have made it to metro finals twice, and brought home many wins for Lincoln in its mere two years at the school. The team’s success has allowed the players many opportunities outside of just playing the game.
Josie Skoog (’27), was one of 12 flag football players in the Metro League selected to attend the first Seahawks game of the 2024 season. Her time at Lumen Field consisted of free food, merch, and tickets to the game. She also got to see the unveiling of a wall in Lumen Field dedicated to Flag football, with Lincoln High Schools name on the wall.
The wall additionally had action shots that feature a few players from various high schools’ Flag football teams. This wall includes a picture of Hannah Lee (’25) underneath “the future is female” written in bolded letters.
Professional photographers took photos of Skoog in front of the wall, which appeared on the news in a story of the Seahawks involvement in Flag football. Skoog was then escorted to her seats, which was a private box, at field level. Skoog says the experience was, “Amazing! It was like… surreal!”
Nico Lettunich (’26) says that, “The Seahawks have done a lot for Flag football.” Their involvement is especially appreciated since Flag football isn’t a WIAA sanctioned sport yet. It’s only a club sport, so there isn’t a state tournament.
In the spring of 2024, there was a vote to make Flag football an official WIAA sanctioned state sport. The Seahawks organization donated $24,000 to teams in hopes of persuading the votes, but on May 13th, 2024, the sanctioning was declined.
In spite of this, the Seahawks organized a tournament with all of the top Flag football teams in the state to battle it out for a state champion title! The tournament took place at the Seahawks professional training facilities, the VMAC, and many Seahawks players came to support. Lettunich says, “All of the players were super nice.”
Lincoln battled it to the end, and got second overall in the tournament. The experience included free Seahawks merchandise, catered food for the players, and an opportunity for the girls to play on the nicest field conditions they ever have.
The Seahawks are big fans of Flag football, and have given the Lincoln team many opportunities of a lifetime. Lettunich says that the Seahawks’ supports has been endless, and recalls their slogan, “The future of football is female.” The Lincoln Flag Football 24-25 season is underway. Show up to games on Saturdays and support your Lynx flag football team!
