Lenny has been cheering us on as our school mascot for 118 years, but have you ever wondered about how Lenny became the face of our school? Lincoln has stayed loyal to the lynx, never changing mascots since the schools opening in 1906. The origin of Lenny’s name was unknown to me, until Mr. Ahlers revealed, “Lenny was the name given to him by their Lynx parents, LLoyd and Lucinda.”
At some point, you’ve probably wondered if there is a specific person behind the mascot. Ultimately, the answer to this is no, there have been many people behind the mask. However, Lenny himself is very much real. Mr. Ahlers stated “Lenny is a living Lynx, who lives in a cave under the school by the historic entrance.” This was surprising as Lenny has rarely been spotted making an appearance during a normal school day, except at assemblies. Maybe they’re in hibernation…
Despite being elusive during the school day, Lenny is one of the biggest supporters of Lincoln sports teams! Although Lenny is extremely busy, he is full of school spirit, and makes appearances at many Lincoln events. According to Mr. Ahlers, ” Lenny loves all things Lincoln, they attend as many Lincoln events as possible, when they are not out working to support their Lynx Family.”
In fact, it is Mr. Ahlers that makes it possible for Lenny to be able to attend so many Lincoln events. When asked about his involvement with the mascot, he stated “I help with Lenny’s travel and logistics to make sure that they can make as many events as possible!” So next time you see Lenny out and about, Mr. Ahlers is to thank for that!
Be sure to show up to Lincoln sports games if you want the chance to see Lenny the Lynx in action!
