Studying can be hard with distractions all around, so let’s find out where Lincoln students feel the most productive!
At Home
The term “homework” was dubbed accurately because, according to Lincoln students, the most popular spot to get work done is at home. Many students mentioned that their house is the best place to be productive because of its familiarity and convenience.
Audrey Draheim (’25) said, “I can’t get anything done outside of my room.” Sam Zisman (’26) mentioned that his bed is his favorite spot to do homework and Nick Wittmann (’26) emphasized that being comfortable is important for being productive, and home provides a great environment for that.
At a Café
On the other hand, a lot of students argued that home is the worst place to be productive and cafés are much better for locking in. Emily Chen (’29) shared that she doesn’t like doing work at home. Riley Farmer (’26) said he enjoys any coffeeshop, and Aniela Sielaff (’26) mentioned she likes working at cafés because at home, she feels like there are many other things she could be doing.
Jai Thombre (’25) remarked that, “There’s too much freedom at home.” They even shared an anecdote about witnessing an argument that related to the psychology content they were studying, which actually helped them understand it better. Cafés can be enjoyable because there’s food, it smells nice, and has cozy tables.
In a Library
Libraries, whether the Lincoln library or a local neighborhood branch, provide the quietest and arguably the most peaceful place to study. “I like finding a corner in the library that’s blocked off from other people,” Zane Parker (’26) says. “It helps me focus.”
Thombre (’25) noted that the library is great because there are fewer loud side conversations going on. There’s also something about being surrounded by books that seems to make people want to be more studious.
