Lincoln High School offers three fantastic language options — Spanish, French, and Japanese — but it is time to expand horizons further.
Introducing Italian would open doors to a rich culture, history, and global opportunities! Italy has played a big part in shaping current global culture. Italy has contributed immensely to art, literature, and philosophy from the Renaissance masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, to the works of Dante Alighieri.
Opera was also born in Italy with composers such as Verdi and Puccini leaving a very big lasting impact on the genre. Studying Italian language and culture would help enrich student’s understanding of the world’s artistic and intellectual heritage and allow them to grow a greater appreciation for the global impact of the nation’s cultural achievements.
The country is also a global leader in various industries, making Italian a very valuable language that Lincoln students can learn for career and economic opportunities. The country is home to many luxury brands, such as Gucci and Prada, and is the base for luxury car manufacturers, such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. The country also has a prosperous food industry that exports pasta, olive oil, and wine globally and is a global leader in trade, design, and tourism.
Learning Italian can offer Lincoln students an edge in securing a job in these sectors, whether in foreign relations, business, or hospitality. Not only does it facilitate easier communication with Italian companies, but it also demonstrates knowledge of the culture, and in today’s global economy, that goes a long way.
For students at Lincoln who wish to travel or study abroad, learning Italian opens the door to a more meaningful Italian experience. Italy has some of the world’s most renowned educational institutions, such as the University of Bologna, which is the world’s oldest continuously active university.
Many of these universities have art, history, and science programs that attract students from all over the world. Italy is also one of the biggest tourist travel areas in the world, with famous landmarks such as the colosseum and the Pompeii ruins. Knowing Italian would enhance the travel experience for students by allowing them to communicate with others much more effectively.
Whether it’s for academic or leisure purposes, learning Italian enhances both intellectual and cultural experiences in one of the world’s most culturally dominant nations and would be a great addition to Lincoln.
