Many of our Lincoln alumni have continued to find success after graduation. One example of this is class of 2024 graduate Jackson Jarrett. Jarrett was a member of the track and field team, starting off as a sprinter, but soon discovered his passion for throwing javelin.
He quickly excelled at this, which led him to continue pursuing his passion for track, looking to compete at the college level. Jarrett has now gone on to participate in D1 athletics at Seattle University, as well as being an outstanding student.
Q. How has the transition from high school to D1 athletics been for you?
A. “The transition has been great I love the team and the classes as well as the support here.”
Q. What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
A. “The biggest challenge I’ve faced has been the coaching because my event coach has said a lot of things without having any actions to back up his word.”
Q. How did you get recruited?
A. “Lots and lots of emails. Always send more and to everyone even if you don’t think you want to attend.”
Q. How/when did you decide you wanted to play college sports?
A. “I knew I wanted to play in college at the end of my junior year and that’s when I started actually locking in”.
Q. What advice would you give to a current high schooler before they go to college?
A. “You can relax but get your work done first and don’t fall behind.”
Q. Do you have any role models you look up to, if so who, and how did they inspire you?
A. “I look up to Jordan Davis, because his javelin career has been very impressive and I met him at Olympic trials last year.”
The importance of perseverance and dedication is clear. Jarrett’s advice is a good reminder to balance passion and academics, but also take time to relax. His story is proof that hard work pays off, and can serve as an inspiration for future Lincoln athletes looking to continue sports after high school.
