Keep Up With The Coolest Fashion at Lincoln
October 17, 2022
As the new year begins, students strut down the halls of Lincoln with style. Not only are they excited about their new classes, but they are confident in their own shoes. Take a closer look at some of the students who make the school brighter every day and stick around for their quality fashion advice!
Mia’s Inspiration: “I think a big inspiration for fashion for me is my older sister. I feel like it’s really helpful when you’re a girl to have an older sister [to] look up to for fashion advice so that you don’t make the same mistakes that she did, so that’s been helpful for me, for sure.”
I think we can all agree that we had some embarrassing fashion choices in the past; Cheetah print leggings and your mom’s old sleeveless vest never really cut it, but how would you have known? It’s always good to have someone in your life to look up to so that you can learn from their experiences.
Annabelle’s Inspiration: “I really like big pants, like any pants with patterns on them, I’ll go for it, you know? I just love a good pant!”
“I just like big baggy clothing, it’s my favorite”
Comfy and cute is always a great choice, especially now that winter is around the corner!
Do you have any fashion advice?
Mia: “People always say this, but confidence is key. As long as you’re wearing something you are comfortable in, and you’re like, you know, walking with some pep in your step, you’re going to look cool.”
Annabelle: “I feel like people who are new to the school want to like, fit in-”
Mia: “Curate your own vibe!”
Annabelle: “Yeah, curate your own vibe! ‘Cuz in the end, your personality matters so much more than your clothes.”
Good fashion is one thing, but good confidence is what really catches the eye! Fashion doesn’t have to be pieces of cloth that you wear, it can boost your self-esteem and motivation in more ways than you think. Don’t be afraid to put on something cute and tell yourself that you look good in the mirror. Own your self-confidence!
Ruby’s Inspiration: “- I like the 60s, I like the 90s, I like the early 2000s…and I really like the indie sleaze Tumblr era too.”
“Alana Champion, Dasha Nekrasova, Bella Hadid, the Olsen Twins, Enya Umanzor and Jane Birkin.”
Fashion advice: “I feel like there’s a lot of pressure in social media and TikTok to like, ‘stick to a certain aesthetic’, and everything has to have a label. If you want to dress in all black one day and then wear pink and leggings the next day, that’s totally fine, don’t feel pressured to stick to a certain aesthetic.”
There are no expectations in fashion whatsoever, it is very fluid. Consistency is good, but it’s always fun to try new things!
JB’s Inspiration: “-My inspiration is to no longer fit into the crowd. After going through three years of Lincoln just trying to fit in with other high school boys, I realized how boring it was. Having at least a little originality makes me feel like an individual instead of another student.”
“-The people I take the most inspo from is definitely Slatersgift (fashion model), and Nicolas Thompson (friend).”
Is there any specific reason why these people inspire you?
“-Well first off Slater is just hot so… yeah. But Nic was my first friend to really explore fashion which has definitely influenced me plenty since we shop for very similar items.”
Fashion advice: Flared denim is a savior.
It’s pretty common for many students to feel the need to “fit in”, especially when starting a new year. There is always an urge to get approval from other students, but why hold yourself back for them when you can express yourself? Your happiness matters so much more than some opinions, so live your life to the fullest!
Bianca’s Inspiration: “I think definitely friends, and do you guys know Enya Umanzor?”
Yes! I love her!
“Literally everything she wears I copy and paste.”
Fashion advice: “I think there’s a temptation to go crazy with your outfit and push yourself out of your comfort zone for the sake of an outfit you could envision in your mind, but when you put on that outfit and if it just doesn’t feel right, don’t force yourself to wear it.”
“Be comfortable in your outfit, and also confident, but don’t force the confidence. Ease yourself into it.”
Getting out of your comfort zone is awesome, but only when it feels good. If you have to pick between wearing pants or a skirt, always go with the one that feels right, don’t force it.
Anna’s Inspiration: “I really like the J-fashion style, and I kind of just go off of any Instagram post that I see.”
Fashion Advice: “Learn how to mix and match!”
Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colors!
Pheobe’s Inspiration: “There’s a fashion illustrator named Tony Viramontes whose work I love! Especially how his designs combine gendered clothes.”
Fashion Advice: “Layering…is good……like skirts over jeans, I think everyone should wear skirts over jeans…NO MORE shirts with shoulder holes!”
Breaking gendered stereotypes in fashion is so inspiring; have you ever tried wearing a dress with a blazer and tie? Mixing clothing and making bold decisions is what makes fashion so unique. There is no right or wrong, fashion bends in all sorts of directions!
I hope you all put this advice to good use, and I hope to see you all walking down the halls with some snazzy outfits! Don’t forget: Confidence is key!
