Do you ever walk down the hallway and see that one person with the cutest outfit, but you get too nervous to say anything about it? You’re dying to know where they got their pants, or at least compliment their style; but by the time you build up the courage to ask, they’re already gone. Well, I can’t tell you how to find that kind of courage because I get nervous too; but I can tell you about some of the best dressed students at Lincoln, where they got their clothes, and what they are dressing up as for Halloween!

Jayden Coffey, she/her, Senior Sasha Hasenstab, she/her, Senior Ruby Eister-Hargrave

Where is your outfit from?

Sasha: “My shoes are from Crossroads; my pants, leather jacket, and belt are from the bins; I believe that this body suit is from Forever 21; this chain is from a military recruitment guy in middle school; and then the rest of my jewelry is from Hard Jewelry, and gifts. Also my earrings are from Hot Topic!”

Jayden: “My converse are from Christmas; my pants are from Depop; my top is from

Poshmark; my necklace is from when I was five; I made my beaded necklace with beads from Michaels craft store; and my earrings were handmade by my dead grandmother.”

*silent pause* Cool!

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

Sasha: “I know we planned to be vampires, but I might do Melanie Martinez-”

Why is that?

Sasha: “Cuz my *fudging* hair and I’m sick of people calling me Cruella, ‘Cuz it’s Melanie.”

What about you, Jayden?

Jayden: “I’m dressing up as a ballerina because I refuse to buy a Halloween costume I can’t reuse. I do Ballet outside of school, so it’s all gonna be reused!”

Do you have any outfit tips?

Sasha: “Layering. Investing in jewelry, rings, and necklaces can make everything better!”

Jayden: “Second hand things are always better. They’re higher quality and they are cooler. Also if you can, learn how to hand stitch.”

Sasha: “Learn sewing to fix up all the damaged stuff from the bins.”

Jayden: “I had the butt of my pants ripped this weekend, and I sewed them back together.”

Sasha: “I sewed the sides of this top because It was too big for me.”

Sewing is a skill that you should develop because it can help you in more ways than you think. Maybe you need to fix a hole in a shirt, or alter some pants you found at a thrift store so that they fit you. But if you’d like to add a little more “spice” to your outfit, have you ever tried thrift flipping? Cutting and sewing old clothing by your design can make something completely original! It can range from adding patches to pants, to making a two-piece set from your grandmother’s nightgown. The more creativity, the more originality!

Where is your outfit from?

These shoes are converse, my pants are from the bins, and these are my friend Bianca’s (referring to sweatshirt and top).”

I borrow my friend’s clothes all the time!

“Oh yes, all the time.”

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

“I was gonna be Ramona (Scott Pilgrim) when I had blue hair, but now I have no Idea.”

Do you have any outfit tips?

Wear what you’re comfortable in, get inspo from social media and friends!”

It’s always handy when you have a friend with a similar style to yours. Not only can they be a source of inspiration, but a source of clothing too (that is if they are comfortable with it). Try swapping pieces of clothing with your friend for a day, you may find a new piece that compliments your outfit!

Where is your outfit from?

I thrifted parts of it, and other parts of it are from Unique Vintage (website).”

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

Yes, I am going to be Greg from Over the Garden Wall!”

Do you have any outfit tips?

“Layering is always a good idea, find a cool jacket or sweater and that can really take an outfit to the next level.”

Layering is a fun and helpful way to style an outfit, but it’s also a skill. There are multiple ways to style a piece of clothing, you just need to find the right ones that appeal to you. But for every outfit you style, adding a fitting jacket can be a gamechanger.

Ava Halada, she/her, Junior Ruby Eister-Hargrave

Where is your outfit from?

“Most of it’s vintage, and then this sweater is from Urban Outfitters, but I got it second hand.”

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

“I definitely am, and I’m going to be Elena from The Mask of Zorro!”

Do you have any outfit tips?

“Oh man, I don’t know if I’m qualified but just have fun! Do research on your own personal style instead of buying into whatever is on trend.”

Fashion can be so much fun when you find clothing that fits your personal style. For instance, if you ever buy a cute top from the thrift store, there is a very big chance no one else at school will have the same one. Having more sense of originality can make your style more unique which is why thrifting is the way to go!

If you ever want to compliment someone’s outfit, do it! They will appreciate it so much and I’m sure they will be happy to tell you where they got their outfit. It’s always nice to know that someone’s inspired by you when it comes to something you are proud of. Always embrace your originality, and don’t forget to dress up for Halloween!
