Netflix has put an $83 billion bid on buying Warner Brothers. This would mean Netflix would have the closest thing to a streaming monopoly – causing Netflix to have control over several studios and condense the options for streaming services.
This is bad. The price to keep Netflix as a monthly subscription would skyrocket, and more importantly, Netflix has said they would shorten theater run times for new movies.
Now is the most important time for people to get back to theaters.
Like everything else, things changed for movies during COVID. Theaters were closed, and new movies had to be released via streaming. As a result, numbers have dropped in attendance ever since.
The general public, who doesn’t want to go back to theaters and prefers movies to be at home, has made several excuses for why. Commenting that the theater is chilly, along with the chairs being uncomfortable, considering the ticket price and won’t even think about buying concessions, and of course, people talking during the screening.
And to that I say, you are being so dramatic.
Here’s how to solve your issues: bring a sweater and tell people to stop talking and turn off their phones. In terms of the seating, the chairs are actually quite cushioned – at least in the theaters I’ve been to.
As for the money issue, many theaters like Regal and AMC have days where you can go for a discounted price. For Regal, it’s on Tuesdays if you have rewards with them (completely free). You can get a ticket for around $8 for a standard movie and 50% off popcorn.
A very classic and easy way to save a couple bucks is to go earlier in the day. Matinee prices end around noon, and they are about $5 cheaper than a standard ticket price.
Finding lower price options isn’t as difficult as it seems.
For people who really love movies, the Regal Unlimited pass seems to give you a lot of bang for your buck, with the pass being $78 for 3 months. This gives you unlimited tickets for those 3 months for yourself along with other perks.
Even better, check out an indie theater! We have a decent selection here in Seattle, and they need support.
I’m not trying to be a Regal Cinema salesperson; I’m just trying to show how there are so many ways you can go to a theater for cheaper or get benefits, because theaters can’t die.
The event of going to the cinema has been around since they could create movies. Filmmakers love this, which is why Blockbuster movies are often shot for IMAX.
The laughs and cries you experience with strangers all witnessing the same story is important. Along with the fact that the screen is so huge that you can see smaller details that you can’t catch on a home TV.
Going to see a movie in the theater is a rite of passage that shouldn’t go extinct. The community, the hard work put into filming, everything, should have a silver screen involved.
