With a highly anticipated lineup of films coming out in 2026, movie fans are in for a treat. Many classic favorite stories will be coming back to life this year, including Dune: Part Three, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and Avengers: Doomsday, along with a live action remake of the beloved Moana. These movies are followed by a handful of equally enticing films on the come up; this year might be the most exciting one yet for movie lovers.
Moana
This July, theaters will be packed with kids, teens, and Disney lovers galore. This is because everyone’s favorite Disney “not princess,” Moana, will be played by Catherine Laga‘aia, alongside Dwayne Johnson as Maui in a live action remake of Moana. Laga‘aia is an 18-year-old actress from Sydney with Samoan heritage. It is suspected that the film will follow the original almost shot by shot. Social media has blown up seeing Moana’s signature natural curls not getting featured in this adaptation! However, there are still very high hopes for the outcome of the movie, some even saying that this movie is expected to be even better than the original.
Avengers: Doomsday
This December, the 5th Avengers franchise movie will be out in theatres! Avengers: Doomsday is going to be a high energy multiverse battle, following your favorite characters from the series such as Thor, Loki, Dr. Strange and so so many more. Beloved actors, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, and Robert Downey Jr. are making fans anxious to get into the theatre. Suit up!
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
This film is releasing November 20th and is packed with an all-star cast, starring Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Joseph Zada, Elle Fanning, and of course, Jennifer Lawrence. The movie is based on Suzanne Collins prequel to the Hunger Games novels, following the 50th Hunger Games competition. This film will follow themes of propaganda, tragedy, and romance.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
The 2000s classic comfort movie, The Devil Wears Prada, is coming out with a sequel May 1st. It will revisit Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s chic rivalry as Streep’s character Miranda is reaching retirement. As we reunite with a nostalgic cast, we will be met with some new characters played by actors such as Sydney Sweeney, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon and B.J Novak! The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be a great start to the spring.
Dune: Part Three
The Dune movies have consistently been massive hits, following Paul Atreides’s attempt to unite with the natives of their dystopian planet while also fighting to reclaim the planet. This December, Dune: Part Three will finish the iconic trilogy. You can expect Timothée Chalamet, Jason Mamoa and Zendaya to return, with Robert Pattinson joining the cast. This highly anticipated film will wrap up Paul Atreides’s journey while exploring the consequences and chaos that come with his rise to power.
This year is packed with blockbuster films. Fans have high hopes, and theatres will certainly be packed. Although it looks like these movies will live up to their expectations considering their all-star casts, we’ll see if they all meet fans’ expectations.
