Girls’ Bowling is a sport at Lincoln High school that’s more than just a game of knocking down pins down the bowling lane. It’s a unique experience in which every strike and spare builds bonds of friendship and mutual support unlike any other sport. Lincoln’s bowling team has brought wins against various schools and continues to do so while having fun with teammates.During the 2026 bowling season, the girls gathered to win at Metros, and through consistency they earned the opportunity to play at State! I asked one of the captains on the Bowling team, Allisson Avante Hernandez (‘26), how she feels as she leaves off her senior year knowing she brought her and her team to state. “One thing I talked about in college applications was that I knew that I could take my girls to state this year as captain and, I did. So, I think just leaving the team off with something so big like state is a very big push for bigger things, and I hope that this will motivate my team to make it to state again and even try to get first place in years to come,” said Hernandez.
Allisson joined Girls’ Bowling in her sophomore year of 2023, and she described her experience being part of the team to be truly amazing, she says “apart from being integrated into a whole new world of serious bowling, the people I have connected with along the way have been a very big part of why I enjoy the sport.” “While bowling seems like an unserious sport, it comes with a lot of pressure and at times can become less fun” the captain explained. While sports come with competition and fun, there are also challenges every team member faces. As team captain, Allisson finds ways to overcome challenges that come with sportsmanship that get in the way of bowling as well as staying consistent with playing an important role for her team, she explains “this year with the responsibilities of being a captain I have made sure to try and remind my team that bowling should be fun and to leave that bad bowl in the past to focus on their next bowl.” Finally, Hernandez states that bowling has been a great experience and would recommend everybody to join both for the fun aspect and for all the places it can take you. Joining Girls’ Bowling team is recommended if you’re looking for a sport filled with anticipation and thrill while making new friends, having fun bowling, but ALSO if you’re into serious competitiveness while hyping each other up after every bowl!
