This year, the boys swim season was one for the history books. Not only did the team make an impressive run throughout the State playoffs, but in his 3rd year on varsity, junior Nash Bayne has set three school records in the process. Growing up, Bayne has dedicated his life to his swimming career. Starting when he was two years old, 15 years of training has set him up for success. But for Bayne, this season wasn’t about individual accolades; it was about bonds built outside of the pool. “The team dynamic was super fun,” Bayne said when reflecting on his favorite parts of the season. “I’ll really miss all our graduating seniors. We did a lot of post-swim breakfasts.” Despite his love for the team’s laid-back moments, Bayne is extremely competitive when he steps on the blocks, especially in his signature event. “The 100 fly is what I’m best at, and it isn’t easy for most people,” Bayne explained. “I’ve never lost it during a dual meet, and I’m excited to keep doing it.”
Setting three school records in a single season is a massive achievement, but Bayne makes it clear that he isn’t going to take this as reason for rest. In fact, he is already pushing harder to break these records again in his senior year, with his time already dropping from a 53.7 as the school record, to a 52.6, a new PR. “I’m not settling. This past weekend I already broke my own record by over a second in the 100 fly,” he noted. “I want to make a record that won’t be broken for a long time, next year.” Next season, Bayne will be stepping into a senior leadership role. While his eyes are set on the record books, he is equally focused on pushing the rest of the roster. “I’m really looking forward to trying to inspire new swimmers and leading cheers to get people hyped,” Bayne said. He also hopes to take on more responsibilities as a captain next year. “I want to try and have captains more involved in practice, maybe leading and making our own sets, but I’ll have to work with the coaches to figure that out.” With his relentless work ethic and loyalty to his teammates, Nash Bayne is set to make his senior season the best one yet.
