Lincoln Lynx baseball is off to a hot start winning their first three games of the year. Last year they were one of the strongest teams going 16-5 in the regular season with lots of nailbiter games. This year it is safe to expect a very strong season as t hey are led by captains Atticus Stanfield (‘26), Miles Macdougal (‘26), Jacob Nelson (‘27), Zach Nelson (‘27), and Anders “Dewey” Diller (‘27). When interviewing Jacob Nelson about how losing 7 seniors may impact the team’s chemistry this year, he said, “Losing our captains had an impact but us having these juniors stepping up to fill these roles is going to be great for next year having 3 of our captains returning.” Lincoln baseball will excel this year with these new junior leaders. These new captains will help with the switch from 3A to 4A. This year the schedule looks very different, with the 4A games on the schedule being crucial for the postseason seeding. This causes for a very different approach as 4A games will be prioritized to favor a higher postseason seed.
Lincoln has had a very successful past with being the metro and state champions in 2023 as well as Lincolns head coach, Ray Atkinson, winning 3A coach of the year. He has helped shape this program into what it is today. Beyond Coach Atkinson, the team is predicted to excel in 4A this year with one of the strongest teams in the state. When talking to all metro second team shortstop Anders Diller about his thoughts on the team this year he said, “It’s great to have a bunch of returning players as it keeps the chemistry strong between us, as well with one of the strongest pitching staffs in the metro division I feel that this will be the strongest team yet going into a season.” Lincoln is expected to be a very strong team this year with Ryan Perkins (‘28) and Sennet Timmermans (‘28), who, according to PBR, are ranked as the 6th and 7th players in the class of 2028 . Theres no doubt that Lincoln will have much success with these leaders taking on the field.
